“SUBIR EL MONTE (II)” - César y su jardín
César y su jardín’s Corre y suelta a los perros is a sprawling, sensitive and queer ode to Mexican folklore that’s taken up much space in my mind palace ever since I listened to it. “SUBIR EL MONTE (II)”, one of the first songs to greet you on the album, is nothing short of miraculous. It’s an especially liquid composition that fuses samba, jazz and chamber folk effortlessly, imperceivably shifting focus throughout. The sounds of running water and whining dogs support Cesar’s dulcet tones, as they sing about being alone and nameless, climbing a hill, traversing an open limbo. It’s a total surrender to nature.
“SUBIR EL MONTE (II)” is available now on streaming services.
"my favorite star went to heaven today" - KG
areyoudoneyet? hosts some of the most stunning and intriguing ambient/drone music currently being made in the scene. I’ve come back to this one plenty of times: most releases on the label veer towards the melancholic and feel more numbing than soothing, which I celebrate. But “my favorite star went to heaven today” feels distinctly hopeful and bittersweet. It invites feelings of heartache, yes, but its relatively light drones and tender harmonics suggest a light at the end of the tunnel. Glass shards, embedded in concrete, shining under the night sky.
"my favorite star went to heaven today" is out now on Bandcamp.
“Pulled Me in Dark” - Giant Claw
Keith Rankin samples like no one else. Whether he’s contributing to death’s dynamic shroud or working solo as Giant Claw, I’ve always adored the way he can carefully reconfigure, chop and stretch vocals from quintessential pop songs, reaching and augmenting the emotions at their core. The beating heart of “Pulled Me in Dark” is a pitch-shifted Selena Gomez, surrounded by cavernous industrial drums, MIDI mallets and plucked strings. The hints of darkness in the original “Nobody” are brought to the fore, turned into something both suffocating and comforting.
"Pulled Me in Dark" is out now on Bandcamp.

“If Its Me / Someone Call The Doctor” - Mondo The Alien (prod. bea4real & roughpatch)
Mondo The Alien is back with fellow limewire exclusive members on the multifaceted production. Flipping the same sample, bea4real produced “If its Me,” while roughpatch got the beat on “Someone Call The Doctor” aiding in this sapphic twofer from Mondo. Falling in love is a beautiful thing. Mondo details her journey through & in sapphic love, finding the best parts of herself through another’s eyes of validation, leading to a shared love for herself & the hardships endured to be here. This time tested track was finished over 2 years ago now, I remember listening to this with Mondo & limewire exclusive driving through the winding Arizona roads to the Grand Canyon. This song captures the memory of that trip perfectly for me.
“If its Me / Someone Call The Doctor” is track 10 of Brilliant But Lazy by Mondo The Alien. Out now everywhere.
“elysium” - robin’s ghost, krwyn, & dis (prod. dj shaun)
Releasing as the 2nd single to save the world by a couple of blokes (robin’s ghost & krwyn), dis joins the two MCs and beatmakers for an ethereal track that finds the three singing about the forward trajectory their music is taking them. On the album this is from, save the world, Bea & Shaun tackle the fascist establishments that aim to suppress the voices of creatives across the world. Following a loose concept, we see the blokes taking direct action against these forces—shooting an unnamed AI mogul, having to flee this planet as wanted individuals forced to reflect on their motion of resistance. Concluding any act they do is worth it to get people talking, informed, & fighting back. This is the moment in the story where the blokes blast off to the moon with a rocket provided by dis.
“elysium” is track 6 of “save the world” by robin’s ghost & krwyn. Out now everywhere.
